In 1905 the Green Family gave their land on Green and Millstone Hills to the City of Worcester “in perpetuity for the health and enjoyment of all its citizens.”
Spanning nearly 500 acres on the crest of one of Worcester’s
seven hills, Green Hill Park offers a wilderness escape in the heart of down
town Worcester.
Once a family estate, the park has been carefully developed
and planned for over a century. It is listed on the National Register of
Historic Places.
The City of Worcester has acquired additional adjacent open
space in an effort to protect, enhance, and expand the park. Considerable
funding has been invested in unique community-oriented projects including a
golf course, a zoo, the state-wide Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and the Worcester
WWI Memorial Grove.
Additionally, Worcester’s largest and most diverse park
includes a lighted field for football, two for softball and five for soccer. An
arboretum, two ponds, playgrounds and a network of drives and parking areas.
Green Hill Pond, a 30-acre “great pond”. Multiple gazebos and picnic
areas provide areas to relax and take in the view.
